Infrastructure Development & Maintenance
This department is responsible for implementing all MIG projects, INEP projects, EPWP and CWP programmes, Road maintenance, Electricity, and Building infrastructure.
This department is integral to the execution and management of various critical infrastructure and development projects. The implementation of Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) projects involves overseeing the development and enhancement of essential public infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and water supply systems. Similarly, the Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP) projects focus on expanding and improving electricity access in underserved areas, ensuring that all residents have reliable power supply. The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and Community Work Programme (CWP) are vital for providing temporary employment opportunities and community-driven development projects, contributing to local economic growth and skills development. These programs are designed to improve community infrastructure while simultaneously addressing unemployment and poverty.
In addition to managing these diverse programs, the department is responsible for ongoing road maintenance, which ensures that transportation networks remain safe and functional for residents and businesses. The electricity function encompasses not only the installation of new infrastructure but also the maintenance and upgrading of existing systems to meet growing demands and technological advancements. Building infrastructure projects, including the construction and renovation of municipal buildings and facilities, are also under the department’s purview. These efforts collectively support the municipality’s goal of improving service delivery, enhancing living conditions, and fostering sustainable development within the community.
